Steve Jobs Speech

Steve jobs’ Stanford commencement speech is regarded as one of the greatest speeches of history. I watched his speech by accident when I was 16, but at that time I was so young that I could not understand what he had pointed out. After his death in 2011, I watched his speech again and read the text of the speech to memorize him. At that time I was 20 and I had been confused about my future and the values of my life. I now can say that I totally understand what he wanted to say and definitely agree with him. In this essay, I would like to share my thoughts and realization of his speech.

First of all, I think the most important lesson he wanted to make is that you should follow your heart. Most people are very worried to follow their own decisions because they are not sure whether it is right or not. So, they ask advices of other people about their decisions and future. However, Steve jobs said "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out our own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition." I think what he wanted to say to us is that we should not listen other's negative opinions about our future and our decisions. We should follow our hearts and intuition. This saying was very impressive to me because I always have been confused and have not been certain about my decisions of my future. But, now I know because of Steve jobs that I should follow my own intuition and my own decision.

Second of all, it is the most motivational saying to me that you should live each day as if it was your last. When he was 17, he read this quote and it was very impressive to him. Since he read this quote, he has looked in the mirror every morning and asked himself that if he wanted to do what he was doing if the day had been the last day of his life. He said this approach that he has done everyday has changed his life very hugely. This method helped him make the big choices of his life. Remembering that he'll be dead soon made him make choices without thinking about fear of embarrassment of failure and all of other's expectations. He could make big choices what's truly important to his life.

Finally, he said you should trust yourself and your destiny. He has always trusted himself that he is going to be okay whenever he encountered difficulties. When he dropped out his college, he felt pretty scary about his future but he had faith that his life will turn out okay. Also, when he was fired from his own company, he felt devastated but he believed that he is going to be okay. He loved what he did and his work and he trusted himself that his life will be okay. "You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, karma, whatever. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith." is Mr. Jobs’ advice for us.

To conclude, Watching Steve jobs Stanford commencement speech was a turning point to me. What Steve jobs said in his speech was the advices what I really needed to listen for my future. I have had so many worries and concerns about my future and my own decisions. But I don't have those things anymore in my mind. I now only have the faith and his sayings in my mind. I will do what I really love to do and I will live like today is my last day of my life. I won't be confused and worried about my future. Whenever I face difficulties and am frustrated, I will watch his speech to strengthen and motivate me.
