Do you know that discrimination and hate speech are a chain relationship? Discrimination creates hatred, and when it leads to expression, it becomes hate speech. Discrimination and hate speech are the most problematic topics in any field, and it is necessary to find out how related the two are to each other.
Discrimination has the intention to maliciously attack, criticize, or belittle a minority group, and this leads to hate speech. Those who have been subjected to hate speech may become socially isolated or feel insulted and uncomfortable, and if it leads to actual action, social activities themselves may be discouraged. Even if you are not the party involved, if hate speech becomes rampant, it can justify hatred, worsen the awareness of the problem itself, and lead to participation in discrimination. People who use hate speech say that it is not hate speech, that they can express their feelings and that they are just saying what they want, but if it harms the person, freedom, and dignity of the other person, this can no longer be considered freedom of expression. Therefore, it is important to note that this hatred does not end with just words but can lead to the exclusion of someone from society and even lead to violence and crime. We must recognize that the hatred that has already become widespread in society is deeply related to discrimination, and we must take the time to reflect on the hate expressions we have used.
I want to raise awareness that the problem of hate speech is closer to us than we think and that it can lead to discrimination. We have an obligation to self-sanction and take care to prevent hate speech from taking hold while presenting both the causes and solutions to hate speech.
