Many popular musicals in Korea are reproduced based on overseas performances. Musicals have had a lot of Western colors. Currently, there are works reflecting our own emotions. We have a sad history, "The period of Japanese occupation". There were many great men who tried to regain our nation's sovereignty when we lost our country.
In the darkness of the Japanese occupation period there appeared a small light, An Jung-geun. A story of A Musical Hero includes the independence movement from Japan, a country that committed terrible sins, and colonization. It also shows Japan's most powerful man of the time, Hirobumi Ito and An Jung-geun, who killed Ito Hirobumi. Now, who is the real criminal?

The actor who plays the character of Ahn Jung-Geun, the hero of the musical, is Ahn Jae-Uk, Jeong Seong-Hwa and Kim Ji-Hun. You should pay close attention to the musical schedules if there is an actor you would like to see acting, because the actor changes day by day and time. However, in some unexpected situations, the actor may change from the schedule without notice.
2. Musical Hero
The musical revolves around the story of Ahn Jung-Geun and independence fighters. Everyone in Korea knows about the independence movement and the outcome. You may feel sick because you are already familiar with it, but you can feel more because you know it. Also, you will be deeply impressed by the realism and lively performances of the musical, and the actors' performances.
The Musical Hero begins with a scene where Ahn Jung-Geun and 12 independence fighters confirm their determinations of the independence movement from a birch tree forest in Russia. Ahn Jung-geun and the independence fighters travel to Russia for independence movements. One day, when Ito Hirobumi visits Harbin, they plan to kill him. Seven gunshots echo through the Harbin Station. Ahn Jung-geun later tells the world about Japan's atrocities in the court, which is held to punish him.
Among the Gachon Herald reporters who watched the musical, there was a reporter so impressed with the musical that he described it as his ‘life-time musical’. After I watched the musical, the images from the musical lingered in my mind for a while. In particular, a scene where the police and fighters played cat and mouse was the most impressive for me. The contrast between the two colors of red and blue lighting on both sides seemed to reflect the appearance of Korea and Japan.
Everybody knows that Korean people are already familiar with the story. However, I still hope that you feel the excitement that can only be obtained by watching the musical. Maybe you easily forget about those who sacrificed themselves for the sake of your country in your busy life; but it will be worthwhile for you to think through the musical hero.
Performances have been scheduled in 2017 and 2018 in by invitation from Shanghai and Beijing. I hope that this musical will lead the Korean wave. Also, I wish it could give wider perspectives about the unsettled history of Japanese colonialism to the public and to the world.
